President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday met Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Nairobi County at State House to discuss a myriad of issues that led to the calling off an impeachment motion against Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

According to Statehouses Kenya, the meeting also discussed f issues revolving around the development and the fight against corruption.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta today at State House, Nairobi met the Nairobi County leadership team to discuss service delivery as the National Government gears up to take over some of the functions of the devolved unit.

“The meeting also discussed national unity and the intensified fight against corruption,” read a tweet by State House Kenya

The MCAs were summoned by President Uhuru on Friday evening.

The development comes days after Sonko said he will not present his defense team at Nairobi County Assembly to respond to a number of accusations labeled towards the governor.

This week, Sonko surrendered some functions to National Government,  a move that elicited mixed reactions from  Kenyans from all walks of life.

Political pundits argued that Sonko’s fate at the helm of City County was at risk adding that his position as a Governor had been threatened.

However, in an interview with Nation, Sonko reiterated that he was still at the helm of the Nairobi County.

“No, I’m firmly in charge at the City Hall and we remain focused on delivering on the Jubilee manifesto,” the Governor said a quoted by the Nation.

Sonko added that he never regrets to have the national government take over some of his functions.

“I wish to reiterate my commitment to the Deed of Transfer of Functions that I signed with the national government. I meant well in doing this and in due course, I will be vindicated,’” he said as quoted by Nation.
