Winnie Odinga, the daughter to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has now reacted after Deputy President William Ruto ‘unveiled’ his preferred candidate ahead of Msambweni by-elections.
Msambweni is set to elect its new Member of Parliament after the demise of Suleiman Dori who succumbed to cancer earlier this year.
DP Ruto who today in a private event with a section of coastal lawmakers met with one of the aspirants despite the Jubilee party where Ruto serves as the Deputy Party leader not fielding a candidate.
The former Eldoret North MP took to his social media platform to reveal his meeting with a battery of coast legislators.
”Met an aspirant for Msambweni parliamentary seat Feisal Abdallah Bader in company of Coast MPs Athman Shariff (Lamu East), @MohaJichoPevu (Nyali), Owen Baya (Kilifi North), Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga) and @HonJumwa (Malindi) at Karen, Nairobi Count,”said Ruto.
The bold move by the second fine on and has since elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans.
Raila’s daughter Winnie Odinga has however, send a coded message as she reacted to the news of Ruto’s alleged Msambweni candidate.
“A matatu would rather leave it’s tout behind than to let your car get ahead of them,”Winnie Odinga said.
According to the statement shared by Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, the decision by the party not to field a candidate was due to the corporation between them and ODM hence no need of ‘fighting’.
This according to Tuju will also present a bigger picture of handshake spirit that was realised by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“With the unprecedented corporation between Jubilee and ODM in Parliament in the recent past on matters of national importance and given that this was an ODM seat, the decision has been made that Jubilee will not field a candidate in the interest of the bigger picture,” said Tuju.
This position was however, strongly opposed by leaders allied to TangaTanga wing of Jubilee.
