Vanessa Nakate was cropped out of a picture that was taken at a press conference in Davos, Switzerland, for being African.
Vanessa Nakate said in a video posted online :
“ This was the first time in my life that I understood the meaning of the word racism”
Many people told her that she should have placed herself in the middle of the different activists (Greta Thunberg, Isabelle Axelsson, Luisa Neubauer, and Loukina Tille), she replied: “Everyone said that I should position myself in the middle is wrong! Does an African activist have to stand in the middle just because of fear of being cropped out?”
Here are the pictures(Vanessa Nakate cropped):
Later the Associated Press news agency said that the building behind her was a distraction and that they cropped her out of the photo because of that.
After they stated: “We regret publishing a photo this morning that cropped out Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate, the only person of color in the photo. As a news organization, we care deeply about accurately representing the world that we cover”
What happened really made my blood boil, this is unacceptable. We should be helping these activists instead of criticizing them.
