Mwendwa’s Election Marked The End Of Boardroom Decisions, Says Osman

Mwendwa's Election Marked The End Of Boardroom Decisions, Says Osman 1

Boardroom decisions are now a thing of the past following Nick Mwendwa’s election four years ago as Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president, Migori Youth chairman Mr. Aziz Osman has said.

Aziz says that, contrary to what had become the norm in the past, the current office has stayed above wrangles and controversies by making satisfactory decisions over the years it has run the National Super League (NSL), having established proper structures to identify teams for promotion and relegation.

“There is transparency. Unlike few years back, we now have a clear promotion and relegation structure, as opposed to boardroom decisions that were the norm before Mwendwa came in,” he added.

He thanked the federation for working painstakingly to raise the level of the league to international standards, making it more competitive than before through partnership agreements with a broad spectrum of corporate entities.

“The current regime has worked to elevate the FKF National Super League by giving it more exposure, making it far much competitive and fair to all the teams in the league,” he said.

The second-tier league received extensive media coverage for three consecutive seasons after a Kenyan free to air sports channel, Bamba Sports, struck a deal with FKF to transmit live matches, a move that granted the participants more exposure to public limelight.

FKF, under Mwendwa, has also made great initiatives to solve the funding crunch. In November, 2019, the federation unveiled a Sh90 million sponsorship deal with online betting firm Betika, that saw the country’s second-tier football league renamed the Betika Super League.

As per the terms of this sponsorship, each of the 20 teams in this competition will receive a Sh750,000 grant each season for the next three years. The clubs will also receive balls, kits, nets and other sports equipment.
