Meet Linda Yaccarino The New Twitter CEO 

Twitter has announced a new CEO, Linda Yaccarino. Yaccarino is a long-time advertising executive who most recently served as chairman of global advertising and partnerships at NBCUniversal.  

This news comes soon after Musk indicated he is stepping down from the role. 

Linda Yaccarino will focus primarily on business operations. Meanwhile, Elon Musk will continue working on product design, and new technology, and remain on the board of directors as Chairman. 

Who is Linda Yaccarino? 

Yaccarino is a respected figure in the advertising industry. She has over 30 years of experience, and she has played a key role in growing NBCUniversal’s advertising business. She is also a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in the workplace.  

In a statement, Yaccarino said she was “excited to join Twitter at this pivotal moment.” She said she was “committed to making Twitter the most trusted and inclusive platform for public conversation.” 

Musk has been CEO of Twitter since October 2022. He has made a number of changes to the company, including laying off employees and making changes to the company’s content moderation policies.   

He has also said he wants to make Twitter a more open platform for free speech. It is unclear what changes Yaccarino will make to Twitter.

However, she is likely to focus on growing the company’s advertising business which plummeted when Musk took over. Furthermore, her other task will be to make Twitter a more attractive platform for users.  

Yaccarino’s appointment is a sign that Musk is serious about making Twitter a success.

Her role as chair of the task force on the future of work at the World Economic Forum in Davos, a target for conspiracy theorists and an event criticised by Musk, led to comments from some quarters suggesting she might undermine Twitter’s absolutist free speech policy.

Musk responded with tweets telling critics to give Yaccarino a chance, while also indicating that he would not ditch his free speech policy in search of commercial returns.

Some of Twitter’s right-leaning base also voiced concerns about her support for Covid-19 vaccinations and mask-wearing, including working on an educational ad campaign featuring Pope Francis for the Joe Biden administration in 2021, in her role as chair of the non-profit advertising group the Ad Council.
