Irate members of the public on Monday lynched a man who had chopped off his mother’s hand while attempting to rape her at Matema village in Kiharu Constituency.
Kennedy Njuguna Mwangi, 31, was roughed up and torched to death, when enraged residents responding to the mother’s distress call, descended on him at their farm, in an incident that occurred at around 3 pm.
The row erupted, when Njuguna accosted his mother, Margaret Njoki, whom she accused of over-harvesting maize on their farm.
According to an eyewitness account, it was the angry mother who doused his son with paraffin before setting him ablaze, ignoring his frantic pleas for forgiveness.
The local assistant chief, Mr. Bernard Mbathi, said that he had arrested the man on several occasions but his mother always intervened.
He urged locals not to avoid take the law into their own hands.
This follows s similar incident last week at Ngaani in Maragua Ridge, where a 28-year-old man was killed after trying to rape his mother.
