The incident occurred when a lorry that was transporting sand lost control and fell on its side, blocking the entire road. The goods it was carrying (sand) spilled all over the road.
At the time, Sonko was leaving his home in his vehicle when the lorry crashed in front of his gate.

Jacob Elkana, the director of communications at the governor’s press office, confirmed the incident giving an update of the status of the county head.
“The governor was unharmed, he is okay,” he told this writer via a text message. Nobody was injured in the incident as the driver of the lorry ran away from the scene. “Police have taken up the matter and investigations have commenced,” Elkana added.
