20-year-old mercurial midfielder Austin Odhiambo has ditched AFC Leopards for Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia.

Austin Odhiambo secured a slot in Leopards’ senior team after making a good impression of himself while turning out for the U-20 side.

Controversy surrounds his contract at Leopards after he and Team Manager Tom Juma differed on dates. While Juma says that the midfielder has three more years left on his contract, Austin Odhiambo insists that it was meant to run out at the end of the season.

“These young players were tied to long-term contracts and if Gor Mahia is interested in signing him then they will have to buy the contract. To move or to stay is his personal decision,” said Juma.

Austin Odhiambo has attributed his decision to storm out of the den to unpaid salary running to three months now. According to FIFA laws, a player automatically becomes a free agent if the employer fails to pay a salary for three months.

“AFC Leopards owe me a lot of money and unless they pay me my dues, I won’t be playing for them next season.

He further accuses Leopards officials of neglecting his pleas.

“I’m ready to end the contract and move to Gor Mahia because even the officials have been silent yet I have raised the issue of payment with them.”

Odhiambo said he would only consider extending his stay at Leopards if they settle his full dues.

“I have already began negotiations with Gor and I hope the logistics will end before the new season starts. Am only ready to play for Leopards if they settle all my dues and assure me I will be paid on time in future,” he added.

The midfielder is set to replace Kenneth Muguna who has already hinted at leaving for greener pastures.
