On 12th September 2020, Kenya woke up to the news that Oscar Sudi’s home in Kapseret, Eldoret had been surrounded by 300 policemen. The public speculated about why the police would want to arrest a man that had openly addressed Uasin Gishu county residents just 2 hours earlier, and yet had not been apprehended then.
Well, it turns out that Sudi was not the primary focus of Police action. In fact, Sudi appears to be part of a bigger scheme to assassinate President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The actual persons of interest were the 3 policemen attached to the Presidential Escort Guards. The three are Simon Siyengo, Issack Dida, and C.I Ekiru.
In the 300 police team, led by Uasin Gishu county commander Johnstone Ipara, was a small NIS crack unit assigned the task of apprehending the three Presidential guards.
A source familiar with this matter said that the NIS uncovered a daring potential assassination plot involving the 3 guards and a PA to Oscar Sudi. The source refused to divulge more details about the plot because it could scuttle investigations.
Over the past 2 months, the three Presidential Escort Guards have been having increased contact with persons the NIS think may compromise the President’s security.
The source also revealed that their lifestyles have drastically changed. All three have bought new cars in just four months. Corporal Siyengo for instance bought a new Toyota Allion, which at the time of writing this story, was still parked at Oscar Sudi’s compound.
The NIS is also investigating whether the guards are being used as drug mules. One of the officer’s phones has been traced to a house in Karen that has been staked out for suspected drug activity.
