The chief justice of Kenya yesterday the 11th of December 2020 had his last day in office, where he proceeded to a one-month terminal leave, which will mark the end of his tenure as the chief justice of Kenya.
During his last statement, the ever sober Maraga highlighted some of his achievements in the judiciary and also his opinion as far as BBI is concerned.
Later on, the ANC party leader Hon Musalia Mudavadi sent a strong message heaping praises on the outgoing chief justice but also touched on the ailing relationship between the executive and the judiciary.
Mr. Mudavadi who referred to Maraga as one of the defenders of the rule of law advocated for a structured way of communication between the executive and the judiciary.
” Chief Justice Maraga, you retire going down the annals of history as one of the defenders of the rule of law. Given the protracted spite between the Executive and Judiciary, there ought to be a structured way of communication between the two and if need be through legislation.” Posted Musalia .
Mr. Maraga has on many occasions accused the president of crippling the judiciary, probably as a result of the 2017 court decision to nullify the presidential elections.
Maraga has always cited president Uhuru’s remarks of “Revisiting” just after the nullification of the elections.
Despite the huge differences portrayed in public , Hon Maraga has always come out clear that he has nothing personal with the president, who he much respect for as the head of state and government.
