Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, NPSC Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia announced Police Officers/constables are in line to receive a Ksh4,000 hike from Ksh21,645 to Ksh25,645.
The increase follows consultations with the National Police Service (NPS) with Acting Inspector General Masengeli recommending promotions and an increase in salaries for his officers.

1. Constables
Under the new review, the longest-serving constable will earn a minimum monthly gross salary (including all allowances) of Ksh25,645 up from Ksh 21,645.
Under the new review, the longest-serving constable will earn a minimum monthly gross salary (including all allowances) of Ksh50,145 up to a maximum of Ksh69,640.
The maximum salary of Ksh69,640 is that of a constable who has gone through the notches and served more than 20 years.
The chairperson revealed that police officers in peacekeeping missions will receive similar remuneration.
2. Senior Assistant Inspector General (SAIG)
At the same time, the chairperson announced that senior assistant Inspector Generals of Police will earn Ksh21,026 more from Ksh200,899 to Ksh221,915.
The longest-serving Senior Assistant Inspector General will take a gross pay of Ksh310,725 to Ksh409,365. This will apply to those serving within the provided twenty notches of the specified structure.

The National Police allows police officers to serve up to twenty notches of salary increments each year.
Police officers enter the structure at notch one. At this stage, they earn Ksh25,645. The following year, they are moved to notch two where officers serve if promotion doesn’t materialise.
“Even without promotions and change of ranks, we give incremental notches every year.”
The chairperson also disclosed that the commission had received complaints of stagnation by some long-serving officers.
“The National Police Service Commission noted there are police officers who have served as police constables for more than 30 years and their discipline records are clean. This means they have stagnated for not any fault on their part,” Kinuthia explained.
Following the review, police officers aged between 53 and 59 without any outstanding disciplinary issues have been recommended for promotion on merit.
So far, the commission has approved the promotion of 1,957 officers including 87 females aged 53 to 59.
The commission recommended promoting to the next rank, 31 Chief Inspectors, 88 Inspectors, 24 Senior Sergeants, 98 Sergeants, 319 Corporals, and 629 Police Constables.
