Rigathi Gachagua is a well-known politician from Kenya who has held a number of positions in the country’s administration.

Rigathi Gachagua was born in Hiriga Village, Mathira Constituency, Nyeri County in 1965. He is the brother of the late Governor of Nyeri, Nderitu Gachagua.

The DP attended Kabiruini Primary School from 1971 to 1977 after he was old enough to enroll. After completing primary school, he studied for his O-levels and A-levels at Kianyaga High School.

The DP afterward enrolled at the University of Nairobi in 1985, where he later graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Literature. He went on to serve as the District Officer.

Before attending the Administration Police Institute, he briefly worked for the Kenya Ministry of Home Affairs and National Heritage after finishing his education.

After successfully completing the Administration Police Institute, Rigathi was appointed a District Officer Cadet and placed in the office of then-President Daniel Arap Moi. He later held positions as a District Officer in the districts of Laikipia, Kakamega, and Ng’arua.

The now DP later enrolled in the Kenya School of Government between 1999 and 2000, where he graduated with a diploma in advanced public administration.

He was able to work as Uhuru Kenyatta’s personal assistant between 2001 and 2006 because of his decision to go back to school. From 2007 through 2017, Gachagua managed his enterprises in the background.

In 2017, he successfully vied for Mathira Constituency parliamentary seat.

On May 15, 2022, the Kenya Kwanza political alliance nominated Rigathi Gchagua to serve as William Ruto’s presidential running mate.

Those fighting for the same job were Kandara MP Alice Wahome, Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru. The ticket won and now he serves under Ruto’s administration as the DP.
