Woman Stabs Boyfriend To Death In Nairobi's Umoja II Estate 1

A 33-year-old engineer based at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been stabbed to death following a disagreement with his girlfriend in Nairobi’s Umoja Estate.

Edward Okello was pronounced dead on arrival at Mama Lucy Hospital where he was rushed while bleeding profusely.

Police arrived at the crime scene and arrested a woman suspected to have committed the offense after neighbors alerted them over the incident which sources say occurred on Sunday evening at around 8.30 pm.

A police report indicates that the woman was identified by neighbors as the deceased’s girlfriend.

“The suspect of the murder who is the girlfriend… was identified by the neighbours and arrested immediately. The team proceeded to the residence at Umoja 2, Zone 8, Plot No. 5961 ground floor and found a pool of blood on the sitting room and a kitchen knife was recovered,” said the police report.

In a video that has since gone viral on the social media, the suspect says she didn’t have any intentions of killing her boyfriend, adding that she wasn’t aware how it happened.

“I don’t know what happened…he started beating me. A woman will take anything to defend themselves. I took a cup and hit him with it… All I know he was hitting me,” the suspect told the police in Swahili.

Said she: ”We were just fighting…you are putting words in my mouth. I don’t know what happened.”

This is the second incident happening in the area in less than two years.

In a similar case, Dickson Samba, 32, died from serious head injuries he sustained after falling from the fourth floor of a flat in Umoja 2 in September 2018.

He is said to have been pushed over the rails of the balcony during a physical confrontation with a man whom he found his wife in bed with in his rental house near Bee Centre, off Kayole Spine road.

His wife, Susan Adhiambo Nyawaga, said that there is absolutely no way she could have killed a man whose pregnancy she was carrying at the moment.

“Only Dickson and God know what really happened on that fateful night,” she said.

Dickson’s siblings however revealed a sorry state of affairs in the 10 years Dickson and Susan have been cohabiting together. They said that their brother had never known peace during the entire period.

They said they had on numerous occasions been called to intervene in their on and off domestic wrangles, adding that Dickson had abandoned any intentions of walking out of the forced marriage after Susan threatened him with dire consequences if he ever dumped her.
