As fears, panic and anxiety rise amid the coronavirus outbreak, the world has come to shut down, from financial markets to small businesses, from universities to preschools, even churches and religious organisations have felt the bang of the shutting door. But there is a group of believers by the name of Seventh-day Adventists who are not fearful but hopeful, not panicking but steadfast, un-anxious but faithful in the midst of the covid-19 crisis.
Seventh- day Adventists have a good reason to be hopeful, steadfast and faithful at a time when the whole world is fearful, panicking and anxious. It is not a blind faith predicated on misplaced theological axioms that give Adventists so much hope, steadfastness and faith. Social distancing policies, which include avoiding places of high-density gatherings have been adopted by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, evidenced by the fact on the 21st of march many Adventist churches were closed and members were advised to worship in their homes with their families.
Therefore, while believing that God has the power to heal the sick, Adventists have taken preventive and precautionary measures against the coronavirus because, as Jesus reminded Satan in the wilderness when he was being tempted, “thou shalt not tempt the Lord your God”.
The axiomatic structures upon which is predicated the hope, steadfastness and faith of Seventh-day Adventist is twofold. First, Seventh-day Adventists are mostly vegetarian. They prefer a plant-based diet because (1) it is man’s original diet that God allocated the human race from the beginning in Genesis 1:29. (2) a plant-based diet nourishes the body more than any other diet, strengthening all the faculties of being; the mind, body and spirit. (3) a flesh diet it causes cancers, tumours and pulmonary diseases because meat decays in the stomach since it takes longer to digest.
Also, animals are becoming more and more diseased and therefore it is a health risk to be consuming meat in this day and age. A diet of flesh meat tends to develop animalism or animalistic passions in people. So whilst meat provides good protein, it wrecks on behaviour. Irrationality, impulsiveness, and lack of sound judgement become the model of decision making in an individual who prefers a diet of flesh meat. As a result of their plant-based diet, most Seventh-day Adventists have strong immune systems, which makes them less likely to die of coronavirus.
Secondly, Jesus made a very peculiar statement in Matthew 24:7-9 that is important and significant to Seventh-day Adventists. The statement reads “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake” a pestilence has come upon the world, however, it will not destroy or kill those who obey the Lord, because, they must go through their own special affliction, and be killed for the name of the Lord. Therefore, the coronavirus pandemic shall not kill them. They must live through it until such time comes that religious liberty will be taken away and Seventh-day Adventists will be afflicted and killed for their faith, especially their observance of the Sabbath. Seventh-day Adventists, therefore, know that the time for them to be killed has not yet come, theirs is yet to come, and hence they remain hopeful, steadfast and faithful when the whole world is fearful, panicking and anxious about dying from the coronavirus.
It is not so much that the lord will prevent Seventh-day Adventists from being killed by the coronavirus, rather, it is the obedience to God’s laws, including the laws of health which regulate foods and diet, that will keep Adventists alive and strong.
Why don’t you join Seventh-day Adventists in accepting the Lord Jesus as the personal saviour of your life, adopt a plant-based diet and live with hope, steadfastness and faith that you shall be kept alive and strong amidst the current coronavirus crisis. When the day shall come that the eastern sky shall be broken, you will welcome Jesus your saviour as he takes you to heaven.
