When Alex Matere, a youth leader from Trans Nzoia county was invited to the stage to address BBI congregants at the Bomas of Kenya as a youth representative, little was known about the vibrant youth.
It was until Alex Matere took the bull by its horns and indirectly meted his anger on the Deputy President William Ruto, that his name caught many Kenyans talking.
Alex Matere’s remarks however, sparked mixed reactions online after his outright attack on Deputy President William Ruto went viral. The furious Matere, who had been invited to speak at the event on behalf of youths alongside Laikipia women representative Catherine Waruguru, bravely rubbished Ruto’s Wheelbarrow movement, saying such a notion was past time
While referring to the DP, the former University of Nairobi student leader claimed that this was not the time for politicians to issue 16th century tools to solve the 21st Century problems.
‘The youth of this country have been sidelined for too long. There is a saying that if you’re not on the table then you are on the menu, the youth of this country have been on the menu for too long, BBI is bringing us on the table,’ remarked Alex Matere.
The vibrant youth urged political leaders to include youths in decision making processes.
According to reports, the youth leader, who is allied to ODM party leader Raila Odinga, has already expressed his intentions to vie for Trans Nzoia County senatorial seat,
Alex Matere praised the document for scouting for inclusivity, adding that his community has been marginalized and it was a major gain that he got an opportunity to address such a gathering.
His remarks have however, angered many of William Ruto’s supporters who have come out to criticise the young leader for being hard on the second in command.
They claim that the outright attack was uncalled for from the young man since BBI report seeks to unite the nation.
