Papa Shirandula: Kenyans received with grief the sad news of the passing of veteran actor Papa Shirandula who reportedly died while receiving treatment at Karen Hospital, Nairobi.
Papa, whose real name is Charles Bukeko, was rushed to the hospital after a short illness but passed on Saturday morning according to a family source.
Bukeko rose to fame when he was cast to play the role of Papa Shirandula in the popular TV series Papa Shirandula which aired on Citizen TV.
The iconic actor was married to one Beatrice Ebbie Andega. Together they were blessed with three kids: Tony, Charlie and Wendy.
Papa Shirandula was born in Buhalarire, Mumias, Kenya and was the firstborn of four children to parents Valeria Makokha and Cosmas Wafula.
Shirandula attended Jogoo Road Primary School and Upper Hill Secondary.
Over the course of his career as an actor, Bukeko has received several awards. During the Kalasha Awards which were held at KICC in the year 2010, he was awarded the Best Actor in a TV series.
Bukeko rose from a very humble background to become a household name in the Kenyan film and television industry and will surely be remembered.
While confirming the sad news, actress and radio host Jackie Nyaminde, alias Wilbroda, said that it was unfortunate that the entertainment industry in Kenya had lost such a legend.
“I am at the Karen Hospital, waiting for my other colleagues in the acting industry to join us. It is unfortunate that we have lost an acting legend,” Wilbroda said.
