Michael Keane deflected the ball into his own net to gift Tottenham Hotspur the only goal of the match as they beat Everton 1-0 in a Premier League clash on Monday (July 6).
Keane denied midfielder Giovani Lo Celso his first Premier League goal for Tottenham in the 23rd minute. Giovani’s bumped off Keane to leave keeper Jordan Pickford well beaten.
Spurs now move up to eighth in the standings on 48 points from 33 games, one behind Arsenal and nine adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea. Everton remain 11th.
Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris was hardly tested in the first half although he was involved in a flashpoint as the players left the pitch at the interval, getting into a furious row with team mate Son Heung-min.
While Manager Jose Mourinho smiled about his 200th Premier League victory, home players Hugo Lloris and Son Heung-min had to be separated by team-mates during the match.
Trouble began when Lloris ran over and shoved Son in the back. The South Korea forward tried to react but was whisked away into the tunnel by team-mates, with others having to hold back France World Cup-winning keeper Lloris.
But the pair put their differences aside at full-time as they shared a warm hug before leaving the pitch.
The win keeps alive Tottenham’s hopes of playing European football next season.
