Narok County Senator Ledama Olekina has cried foul over the appointment of Lieutenant General Robert Kibochi as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

Senator Ledama took to his Twitter account to claim that Kibochi’s appointment as the Defence Forces’ Boss was tribal.

The angry Senator further claimed that General Walter Koipaton Raria was the most qualified successor of General Mwathathe but was denied the position because he is Maasai.

“Even @kdfinfo is tribal? This is a truly a messed up country. The most qualified Military man to succeed Gen. Mwathathe was Lieutenant General Walter Koipaton Raria! But just because he is Maasai he is left out and a staff Deputy is appointed! Very unfortunate! @StateHouseKenya,” tweeted Olekina.

The president announced the new appointments during the state of nation address today evening from State House.

According to the new changes, Uhuru appointed General Robert Kibochi as the Chief of Defence Forces to replace General Samson Mwathethe whose term in office has expired.

Mwathathe’s term had ended last year but was extended to this year by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

President Kenyatta also appointed General Levi Mghalu as the Vice Chief of Defence Forces while Major General Jimson Mutai will take over as the Commander of the Kenya Navy.

The new appointees are set to assume office on May 11, 2020.
