The Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga has revealed details of a letter that the late member of parliament for Msambweni Suleiman Dori wrote him before his death weeks ago.
Speaking in Msambweni to drum up support for his party’s candidate Omar Boga, Mr. Odinga said that the late legislator wrote him a letter begging for forgiveness after the ODM planned to take disciplinary action against Dori. In the letter, Dori allegedly said that he had recognized the error of his ways and had decided to change course.
“You know that Suleiman Dori and the wan from Malindi, what is her name? went astray. The party wanted to take disciplinary action against him but he wrote me a letter asking for forgiveness. – Raila Odinga
He said he was sorry for going astray and wanted to remain in ODM. Members of the party insisted that he be dealt with but I told them each one of us has somewhat wronged ODM and anyone who ho had not wronged ODM to be the first to cast a stone. Dori died as a member of ODM, ” the former prime minister said in a speech on Thursday in Msambweni.
Raila Odinga’s words are in stark contrast to what the Malindi member of parliament Aisha Jumwa said a few days ago. According to the Malindi member of parliament, the late Suleiman Dori died while bitter with ODM.
She claimed that the Mombasa county governor Ali Hassan Joho, who doubles up as the ODM party leader, worked behind the scenes to plot the ejection of Dori and herself from the party.
The people of Msambweni will have the opportunity to elect their next member of parliament in less than a week. Omar Boga, the ODM candidate, has been projected by independent pollsters to be in a strong position to win.
He will slug it out with the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto-backed independent candidate Feisal Bader. The deputy president elected to rally behind the independent candidate after his governing Jubilee party said it would not field a candidate.
