Former Prime Minister of Kenya Mr. Raila Odinga has now moved to quash false reports that he held a meeting with Waiguru to deliberate her fate ahead of a looming impeachment decision in the senate.
According to Raila, the information was false and that the Daily Nation is being used to propagate false information. Raila confirmed he held the meeting though Waiguru was not in attendance.
“I am deeply concerned about the false story published in the Sunday Nation today, 14” June 2020, that I held a meeting with the recently impeached Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru in a bid to save a career.
No such meeting with Ms. Waiguru or the other Governors, James Nyoro of Kiambu and Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri took place as reported in the Sunday Nation.” Raila ranted
Raila revealed that there was no any committee in place to impeach Waiguru. Raila warned that he had no business in determining what his guests choose to discuss during meetings.
“I can, however, confirm that at the said evening hours on Thursday referred to in the Sunday Nation lead page one story, I had a meeting with Laikipia Women Representative Hon. Catherine Waruguru in the company of some members of Parliament. The meeting had nothing to do with the tribulations of governor Waiguru.” Raila continued
The Former Prime Minister criticized the paper for promoting laziness in journalism since Their reportings lack verifiable facts. “They require objective and deep reporting, based on verifiable facts, which is hard work, and not a collection of rumors and trivia from anonymous sources, which is the epitome of lazy journalism,” Raila said
