President Uhuru Kenyatta Salary

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s basic salary in Kenya is Ksh.1,850,000 per month exclusive of all allowances. When all monthly allowances are included, the president salary per month becomes Ksh.3,205,000

A retired president’s once-a-month pension is set at 80 percent of his pensionable salary, which is equivalent to 60 percent of Sh1.44 million monthly pay offered to the sitting president.

He also has other perks like fuel, house, and entertainment allowances, which pushes the overall benefits above the salaries and allowances of top chief executives of State-owned firms like KenGen, Kenya-Re, and Kenya Power.

The allocation comes amid a raging debate in Kenya’s political circle on whether President Kenyatta’s term could be extended beyond August 2022. Mr. Kenyatta has maintained that he will not extend his term.

The Treasury has created a new budget item come July 2022, which coincides with the end of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure. According to the budget estimates, the figure will increase to Ksh79,200,000 in the financial year 2024/25. 

President Retirement Cost

Further, the monthly pension for retired Presidents is set to rise from the current Ksh34,426,600 to Ksh42,426,600 (2022), Ksh42,776,149 (2023) and Ksh47,053,765 in the 2024 financial year.
