Mwendwa Is Fully Behind The Success Of Kenya Women's Football- Bateman 1

“It is quite rare to have a federation with a president like Nick Mwendwa who so actively supports women’s football, a FIFA football officer has said.

FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer Sarai Bateman, is full of praise for Football Kenya Feferation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa whom she says has put a lot of efforts towards developing women’s football in the country.

“I think here one of the key success factors is that your president is very very supportive of women’s football. This is something that unfortunately is quite rare, to have a federation with a president who so actively supports women’s football,” she said.

Bateman noted that such goodwill is what had made Kenya achieve the current impressive record in women’s football within a very short time. She acknowledged the efforts of both Mwendwa and FKF CEO Barry Otieno.

“I believe the success of the programs that we have put in place here and of your women’s football department are very much attributed to the support from your president and also your general secretary.”

Bate predicted a bright future for women footballers in the country if the federation didn’t relent on persistently pursuing the programs it had put in place to develop the sport.

“I think as long as we continue to develop the programs, and we deliver them consistently, the future is very bright for women’s football in Kenya.”

The current regime re-introduced the FKF Women Premier League and Division One Leagues, in 2016, to give life to Harambee Starlets, which had no voice in the past.

FIFA in conjunction with the Federation set up a pilot project for women football development that conducted a series of coaching courses that kicked off in Mombasa for grass root coaches and sports teachers from the Coast region.

The program was thereafter activated in Nairobi before Kisumu and Meru successfully hosted the final phase, with participants from Nyanza, Western and parts of Rift Valley taking part.
