Residents of Umoja II will have a new cabro road in the next three weeks, Embakasi West MP George Theuri has said.
The lawmaker spoke as he addressed residents during the final public awareness meeting held at the entrance of 1000 Hospital, adjacent to the Umoja II open air market.
The rehabilitation work will cover the stretch between Umoja II bus stop and the Catholic church road. Besides upgrading it to mordern cabro standards, plans are also in place to overhaul the entire drainage system running along the stretch.
Theuri asked traders with structures encroaching the site for construction to pull them down and reconstruct them at least a meter from the pavement.
He promised to expedite the process, hoping to deliver the project to the public within a record three weeks.
“God willing, in three weeks time the work will be complete if all goes as planned,” he said.
The project is fully funded and supervised by Embakasi west constituency KERRA budget 2019- 2020.
“Soon after, through the same budget, we shall also do Umoja II Peter Kibukosya Primary School barrier in zone 1, up to the market, upgrading it to cabro standards.”
He relayed apologies for area MCA Joseph Ndonji whom he said had been held up elsewhere, thus failing to turn up for the event as had been initially expected.
Residents who attended the meeting were upbeat about the plan, saying if implemented, it would rescue them from the inconvenience caused to pedestrians and drivers especially when it rains and the road becomes muddy.
Meanwhile, Kariobangi South 56 road up to the bridge has also been earmarked for upgrading to carbro standards, through Embakasi west constituency KERRA budget.
