Governor Mike Sonko is in mourning after losing a close personal friend to him and his family.
The embattled governor taking to his Facebook had nothing but praises for the former Makueni MP Peter Kiilu who he said was, “a passionate man who dedicated all his life to serve his community and country in various capacities.”
Sonko intimated that he was a close friend to his late father and also a colleague in the 10th Parliament, where, “he demonstrated his commitment to serve his people with great zeal and humility.”

It is with profound sadness that I have learned of the passing on of Hon. Peter L. N. Kiilu, former Makueni Constituency MP and long-serving Provincial Commissioner.
The late Hon. Kiilu was a passionate man who dedicated all his life to serving his community and country in various capacities. He was a close friend to my late Dad and also a colleague in the 10th Parliament, where he demonstrated his commitment to serve his people with great zeal and humility.
May God bless and rest his soul in eternal peace, and may He comfort his family during this most trying moment.

Sending a message of condolence, he said he received the message of passing on of Mr. Kiilu with profound sadness. The 69-year-old politician former MP breathed his last at Nairobi hospital on Tuesday.
Leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta came out to eulogize him as a dedicated leader who did his best during his time. In a statement by statehouse on Twitter, the President sent his condolences to the family of the fallen legislator.
He said Kiilu was a friendly and seasoned public administrator who served the nation with distinction. Kiilu also served as a District Commissioner in Nandi and as a district officer in other areas before venturing into politics.
