Linet Chepkorir, famously known as Toto, has become an internet sensation after emerging victorious in the Bomet Woman Representative United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries held on Thursday, April 14.
From provisional results, the 24-year-old took an early lead in the race that attracted 10 other contestants.
Her story is not all rosy. The 24-year-old aspirant was once accused of intruding into Deputy President William Ruto’s Karen home during a leaders’ meeting.
Chepkorir had visited Ruto’s Karen residence in Nairobi where Rift Valley aspirants seeking UDA tickets were meeting. She was, however, blocked at the entrance by guards who accused her of being an intruder.
The security detail of the Deputy President told her that she was intruding into the leaders’ meeting which was above her cut. Linet Chepkorir was judged by her demeanor and the casual dress that made her look like a schoolgirl.
She, however, stood her ground and insisted that she has to be part of the meeting as she was also an aspirant from the vote-rich South Rift region.
“Eventually, after about an hour, I was allowed in after I showed them my passcode to the meeting; electronically generated for members who have paid UDA aspirants’ fee of Ksh6,000,” she stated in a past interview with The Nation.
Chepkorir donned a yellow hoodie, a simple hairdo, a green dress, and rubber shoes to the high-level meeting.
The third born in a family of seven took the back seat as she waited for Ruto to arrive at the event.
“I took a seat in the back row, then it occurred to me that the Deputy President had not arrived. I walked to the front and requested a person who was standing by to take snapshots of me using my phone so I could provide evidence that I went to the DP’s residence,” she remarked.
Thereafter, she uploaded the photos on her social media platforms and proceeded to switch off her phone as was demanded by security officers. DP Ruto walked in and the meeting began. It ended a few hours later and she started her journey back to Bomet.
Switching on her phone, she realized that she was trending. This was the birth of her popularity.
Chepkorir, who is now hoping to clinch the Bomet Woman Representative seat in August, holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Chuka University, having graduated in April 2021.
Linet was born in the year 1998 to Leonard Langat and Betty Lagat in Kapsimbiri Village, Bomet East Constituency in Bomet County. She is the firstborn in a very humble family of four girls.
The genesis of The Name Toto
The name ‘ Toto’ means a young one and we often used it when referring to a baby. According to Linet Chepkorir, the name Toto was given during his birth because she was undersize or rather too small.
However, her mother came from a different story on the genesis of the name ‘Toto’. According to Linet’s mother, the name originated from a Maasai lady who was living with them. She said she found a challenge in pronouncing the name Linet Chepkorir and she decides to name her Toto.
Linet Chepkorir Toto started her primary education at Kapsimbiri Primary School. She later joined Siwot Secondary School before enrolling in Tharaka University to pursue Procurement which she graduated in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree before tossing herself into the political ring.
She is a new entrant to the political arena. Her aspiration to contest for Bomet county mp started in 2021, the news was not well received by her parents who thought it was not the right time to run for the position. Her parents have encouraged her to a career in procurement.
Speaking about her net worth, Linet Toto said she had no money since she has never worked anywhere. Her campaigns were financed by wells wishers.Would you like to get published on this Popular Blog?
