Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has affirmed his unwavering support to the new Nyamira leaders, just over a week after Governor Amos Nyaribo took over, in a move that could improve the fortunes of the county on development-related matters.
At Nyambaria High School on Saturday, Matiang’i, who has been in charge of the security sector for the last two years, revealed that he has invited the county leadership of Nyamira next Wednesday to his Nairobi offices to discuss urgent development issues that should be handled for the next 18 months.
Currently, Dr. Matiang’i chairs the influential National Development Implementation Committee which was domiciled in the presidency and has been instrumental in articulating the government agenda in the last couple of months.
While acknowledging the change of leadership, Dr. Matiang’i said: “I am ready to work with the new governor for the sake of service delivery for our people. There is a lot which should be done in the next couple of months. We cannot fulfill these important agendas if we do not sit down and chat the way forward as your leaders.”
He added: “I have already spoken to Governor Nyaribo and we have agreed to have the leadership meeting in my offices. There is goodwill from your leaders, it’s time that we give them moral support so that they deliver. With teamwork, we can easily deliver.”
For Nyamira to record growth in all sectors, he said, all the leaders from the county should “bury their political differences” for the sake of posterity and stability. The leadership, he added, should work closely with the national government and other development partners.
The Interior CS asked the county of Nyamira leadership to support the agenda of the new governor by reducing “unnecessary political frictions” which he noted, “could be detrimental” to the people of Nyamira given the limited time before the 2022 polls.
Already, Governor Nyaribo has held leadership meeting with key stakeholders in his government. On Thursday, he met chief officers and directors who are responsible for implementation and execution of government programmes.
A day after taking oath as the second governor of Nyamira, Governor Nyaribo also met a host of MCAs in Kericho where they had a brief discussion on cooperation for the next 18 months. The governor has also nominated CECMs and the Deputy Governor who are yet to be vetted.
Dr. Matiang’i, who is set to meet Gusii elders on Sunday at ATC, said he will ensure Health, Roads, Agriculture among other sectors are supported by the national government. He also emphasized on need to invest in education.
Present during his trip to Kitutu Masaba on Saturday were County Woman Rep Jerusha Momanyi, Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose among other local leaders. Wednesday’s meeting between Matiang’i and Nyamira leadership will be the first under the administration of Governor Nyaribo.
