Margaret Kenyatta is the wife of President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, who is the fourth President of the Republic of Kenya. She stands as one of the most iconic first ladies who will never be forgotten in Kenya’s history.

Margaret commands great respect among many Kenyan citizens, as she is described by many as the powerhouse of Uhuru Kenyatta and the family. She is the third Kenyan lady after Lucy Kibaki.

Margaret Kenyatta is widely knokwn for her simplicity, compassionate character which is quite temperament.

Early Life.

Margaret Kenyatta was born on April 8, 1964. She was born in a family of two, her brother named Maina Gakuo. Her father is called Dr. Ephantus Njuguna Gakuo, who was the former Director of State Controlled Kenya Railway Corporation.

Her dad graduated with a Ph.D. in Economics in 1960 after having studied at the Freiberg University in Germany. Her mother is named Magdalena, who is a German native.

Prior to serving the Railways corporation, Dr.Gakuo worked for three years at Delhi University as a lecturer. He then obtained a BA and MA degrees in commerce from Delhi, faculty of Business that is in 1955.

Margaret Kenyatta attended St.Andrews school, Turi in Molo, Nakuru County for her elementary education, before proceeding to Kianda school, a catholic school for her further studies. Upon succeeding Margaret further joined Kenyatta University for her undergraduate degree in Education.

Husband and Children.

There are no reports concerning Margaret’s previous love-life before meeting her soul-winner His Excellency President Kenyatta. She met Uhuru while in High School as they had live chats on Facebook. The president stated that they came to know each other through her elder brother Maina Gakuo. The two began dating and finally got married at the Holy Family Basilica in 1991.

The two couples are blessed with three children. Their firstborn named Jomo, has married his long time fiancee named Fiona Achola Ngobi. Their second son named Jaba Muhoho is a special designer in different countries in Africa. Their first daughter named Ngina has been named after her grandmother, called mama Ngina Kenyatta. She has a degree as a director of Kenyatta Foundation.

Margaret’s Contribution to Society.

Margaret Kenyatta is the most active of all first ladies in Kenya. She has been involved in quite a number of social activities that have touched lives. She is the founder of the Beyond Zero campaign which is mandated at improving maternal and child health in Kenya.

The campaign also aims at reducing the HIV prevalence and infections among small children. The campaign was launched on January 24, 2014, after having been unveiled on World Aids day in 2013. Her continuous support for young children has earned her recognition among many.

Margaret has also championed her efforts in Kenya by encouraging patients to fight cancer through early screening. She has helped diabetes patients in living a healthy life.

Additionally, Margaret has championed a number of programs including the opening of the WE charity college in Narok county. She has also opened several educational and charity sectors in Kenya.

Milestones of Beyond Zero Campaign.

Through the Beyond Zero Campaign, HIV infections among children have reduced from 12,000 cases in 2013 to 6,600 cases in 2016. Currently, the rate of infections has tremendously reduced.

The total number ow mothers who gave birth without the help of skilled health practitioners reduced from 56% in 2013 to 34% in 2016.

At the beginning of 2019, Beyond Zero Campaign had made donations of atleast 50 fully eqquiped mobile clinics in all the counties in Kenya. Surprisingly, some counties benefited by getting more than one clinic.
