John Paul Mwirigi was born on 7th January 1994 in Meru County, Igembe South Constituency. He grew up in a family of eight siblings as the sixth-born. According to reliable sources, Mwirigis’s family had a humble beginning as they could not barely afford a good life.
This made Mwirigi aspire for change ever since his childhood, a factor that has shaped him into whom he is today. Mwirigis dad passed on in 2014, leaving behind the mother who is still alive to date.
Mwirigi joined Riaki Primary School for his primary school education and then later joined Kirindine day Secondary School for High School Diploma. Upon successfully passing the examinations, he joined Mount Kenya University (MKU) where he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
As a History and Kiswahili student, Mwirigi had to undertake part-time courses, for him to work and raise school fees. Tables turned for Mwirigi for by the time he was in his third year at MKU, he was elected as a member of Parliament.

John Paul Mwirigi initially worked at Igembe Tea Factory as a causual laborer. He used to earn peanuts amounting to Kshs. 350 daily for carrying logswhile at times he worked at a friends timber yard to gather money for his fees and upkeep.
Mwirigi developed political urge while still in High school at the age of 19 years. This urge made his friends encourage him to make his dream come true. The biggest hindrance for Mwirigi’s political journey was the lack of resources to maintain him. His family members had no money to help him out.
Additionally, Mwirigi had no political experience and thus, he had no political party to back him. This made him vie the seat as an independent candidate. Mwirigis campaign were very unique for they were done on foot.
Unlike his opponents, Mwirigi did a door-to-door campaign whereby he would convince people to elect him. Luckily enough during the election period, Mwirigi emerged victorious, beating his closest aspirant by over 3,000 votes. This made mwirigi scoop over 75 percent of the total votes casted.
