Former statehouse aide Dennis Itumbi has sent a heartfelt message to his fellow blogger Robert Alai after he was arrested on Friday by the DCI.

Itumbi in his Twitter message urged his colleague to be calm telling him all shall be well. “@RobertAlai to spend the weekend at Muthaiga Cell. It shall be well.”

Abraham Mutai is another blogger who has criticized Alai’s arrest saying his freedom of speech had been violated.

He said gone are days when freedom of speech was being restricted urging Directorate of Criminal investigations (DCI) to ensure his wellbeing at the cell is well catered for.

“Robert Alai is protected under freedom of speech. Unless we want to go back to dark days, @DCI_Kenya you guys ensure Alai is well fed, given chicken, & is free of Corona, release him later. I can’t emphasize this enough. The gains we have made in this country should be Protected,” he tweeted.

Mutai further claimed Alai’s arrest was not a surprise as health cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe had earlier promised to ensure all bloggers are taken to Mbagathi hospital.

“Robert Alai has been taken to Muthaiga Police Station. (Mutahi Kagwe claimed he will take bloggers to Mbagathi Hospital),” he stated.

“Any journalist at the LIVE Press Address to ask Mutahi Kagwe whether he will live to his promise and take Robert Alai to Mbagathi Hospital to report live from there.? Hawa journalists are asking the wrong questions #CoronaVirusUpdate,”he added.
