Former State House operative Dennis Itumbi has finally revealed details of a plot he claims has been hatched to prevent Deputy President William Ruto‘s presidency in 2022.
Itumbi, a close ally of the DP, recently claimed that the plot has been in the making for years and was kicked off by a meeting held after the Jubilee Party’s reelection in 2017.
He says that the meeting brought on board powerful forces opposed to Ruto, and a number of strategies were proposed, among them the ongoing push for constitutional changes.
Similarly, he revealed in a Facebook post on Tuesday, the group came up with a plan to heat up the fight against corruption and heavily link him to graft, probably to make him look bad before Kenyans.
According to Dennis Itumbi, the plot includes linking state officers allied to Ruto to graft and then sack them, with the hope that Kenyans will be able to pick it up that the DP is surrounded by corrupt persons.
“The strategy was to open up new cases on big tenders touching on Big Fish including Cabinet Secretaries, PSs and parastatal heads and revive old cases touching on the DP,” reads the post in part.
Dennis Itumbi claims that the other strategy proposed was to take over the ruling Jubilee Party to make it easy to frustrate the DP, which was to be realized by a team of lawyers appointed and given the job.
He added that a team was also deployed to bring on board most of the established politicians, so as to form a bigger team to make it easy to beat the DP.
According to Dennis Itumbi, the team was further directed to come up with a team of influential leaders who are to be posed as possible presidential candidates, a team that must revolve around the leading political tribes.
“Kikuyus, Luos and Kalenjins determine the politics of Kenya, if any if the two combine they would tilt the scales. The team should suggest more names with that in mind,” he added, as was reportedly recorded in the minutes of the alleged meeting.
The leaders who were to be given consideration, he alleged, include Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, who is to he posed as Ruto’s possible replacement as the Rift Valley political kingpin.
Some of his revelations appear to be in the initial steps of being implemented, for instance, the ongoing attempts to force changes in the Jubilee Party’s National Management Committee (NMC).
The DP and his allies have openly claimed that the changes are aimed at carrying out a coup in the ruling bloc. Ruto has also admitted that some top state officials have declared war on his 2022 candidature.
