Toby Alderweireld 81st-minute header secured maximum points for Tottenham Hotspur as the hosts fought back to beat North London rivals Arsenal in a hotly contested derby on Sunday.
Tottenham put behind them a disappointing midweek encounter at Bournemouth on Thursday – where they were held to a barren draw – to give a much-improved display. At stake for both sides was pride and the derby day bragging rights which Spurs secured comfortably after the final whistle.
The Gunners fired the first salvo when Alexandre Lacazette rifled past Hugo Lloris in the 16th minute to put them in the driver’s seat. However, just two and a quarter minutes later, Tottenham were level after Heung-Min Son punished the Gunners for a defensive lapse, to drive the ball past Emiliano Martinez.
With just nine minutes left, Toby Alderweireld came up for a corner and towering over the pack, sent a glancing header into the back of the net to give Jose Mourinho a win in his first-ever north London derby.
