Dr. Alfred Mutua is the current and first Governor of Machakos County. He has a very great and unique command of respect, after having been the Official Kenyan Government Spokesperson and Public Communications Secretary.
Many identify him as the best performing Governor of the Republic of Kenya, after having championed development and change in Machakos County. He stands as an inspiration and motivation to many Kenyans, through his code of conduct, and commitment.

Dr. Alfred Nganga Mutua was born on 22nd August 1970. He is currently aged 50 years..
He was born in Masii, Machakos County. He is the eldest brother in their family, having been brought up with his sister named Ann in a humble background. Mutua’s father is called Habil Otieno Lut from Kalenjuok village in Western Kenya. This means that the Governor has Luo parentage.
Due to Dr. Mutua’s Luo parentage, his mother recently stated that if Dr. Mutua could not win the Machakos Gubernatorial seat, he was free to vie in Siaya since he is a Luo.
During their childhood, the family vacated from Masii to Makina in Kibera slums, Nairobi where Mutua spent his childhood, as their parents were civil servants. Despite the family hardships, the Governor did not fade away in dreaming for a bright future.
Mutua’s grandfather always told him not to allow the present life bother him, for things would soon change and he would never lead a poor life.
Dr.Alfred Mutua began schooling at Guadalupe Catholic Church Nursery school, befor proceedng to Toi primary school in Kibera. He then joined Dagoretti High school where he became a very active public speaker and actor.
Mutua further proceeded to Jamhuri school for his A levels, where he became the president of the senior debating society. He realized his skills in acting, script-writing, rugby and football.
Mutua further joined Whitworth college in the USA for his bachelor’s degree in arts and Journalism. He then enrolled in for Masters in Science program at Eastern Washington University in the USA. Upon successfully qualifying, the Governor went to the University of Western Sydney, Australia for his Doctorate in Communication and Media.
Ever since childhood, Governor Mutua has engaged in different odd jobs, including construction (mjengo) jobs, as a means of survival. Up to date, the Governor recalls of his old days hustle.
However, life began taking a U-turn for him. In 1997, became a lecturer at Daystar University, at the age of 27. Alongside the career, Mutua had a company called Golden Dreams Company (GDC) which he used to run ever since he was 21.
Initially while in the United States, Mutua published several publications including ” An American in America” documentary in 1996. He worked for several TC stations like PBS in Seattle, Washington. In 1996, he worked for Nation Media Group as a reporter and features writer.
While in Sydney, he worked as a foreign correspondent for SBS TV’s international magazine show Dateline. Mutua traveled widely across the world.
Mutua has also lectured at the University of Western Sydney, Macquarine University, TAFE colleges in Sydney, and Zayed University in UAE just to mention a few.
Mutua has served in the Government of Kenya as a Government’s spokesperson and Public Communications Secretary ever since 2004, courtesy of President Mwai Kibaki.
In 2012, Governor Mutua resigned from the position of Spokesperson, and is now serving as the Governor, Machakos County.
Family and Children.
Alfred Mutua was initially married to Josephine Thitu Maundu, having wedded on 1st July 2001. They had three children then divorced. The first family currently lives in Australia.
Mutua later on married Lilian Nganga, who is currently the first lady of Machakos County.
