Details have emerged former Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi’s fate was sealed at State House as President Uhuru Kenyatta asked her to step down over irreconcilable differences with MCAs.
The meeting that was held on July 31 was attended by 41 Jubilee ward representatives led by reinstated Majority Leader Abdi Guyo.
The MCAs who were tired of the constant fighting between embattled Governor Mike Sonko and Elachi raised their concerns with the president, The Standard reported.
“We spoke with the president and he listened to us and acted accordingly. There are claims that Elachi did not follow due process in tendering her resignation, but we are going to impeach her even if she has resigned, so that we can seal off any loophole of her ever coming back. This time she will not catch us by surprise,” Roysambu MCA Peter Warutere said.

The ward reps told the head of state they could no longer work with the speaker as her supremacy wars with Sonko threatened to halt the assembly’s operations.
“We met the president and made him understand Elachi was the problem at the assembly since she was acting contrary to assembly procedure. What you are seeing happening today (Elachi’s resignation) is a consequence of that meeting with Uhuru who at the time told us he would solve Nairobi’s problems in two weeks,” an MCA who sought anonymity said.
Elachi tendered her resignation to the president on Tuesday, August 11, and not to the clerk of the assembly as it is the procedure.
In her statement, the former nominated senator cited frustrations and threats to her life as the reasons for throwing the towel.
“It has been tough and I can’t hold any longer. I, therefore, tender my resignation and thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving me this opportunity to serve under his Jubilee administration,” she said.
