Petroleum and Mining CAS Mosonik John hosted Deputy President William Ruto and a number of senior leaders from the Rift Valley at his home in Bomet on Saturday, intensifying talk on his plan to run for the county’s governorship in the next elections.
CAS Mosonik, presently the only seniormost government official from Bomet, was receiving his recently-wed son at their home in Kapletundo, Sotik constituency.
The DP was joined by Cabinet Secretaries Charles Keter (Energy), Farida Karoney (Lands), Simon Chelugui (Labour) and John Munyes (Petroleum).
Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, Senator Christopher Lang’at, and woman representative Joyce Korir, and a number of MPs were also present.
The powerful delegation to the Mosonik’s home was an indication of Mosonik’s growing political influence in a region known to support the DP unequivocally.
CAS Mosonik is thought to be considering vying for the county’s gubernatorial seat in the 2022 elections.
Presently, there is no clear frontrunner for the powerful seat with Governor Hillary Barchok, who took over from the late Joyce Laboso following her death last year, also planning to defend the seat.
Other candidates, who have shown interest in the seat are former Governor Isaac Ruto and Bomet Central MP Ronald Tonui.
