The bread company started in Mombasa in the year 1970 and it was started by a person called “Mama Kubwa”. This is now a family-owned baking company that is operated by Mini Bakeries.
With the constant expansion of bakeries throughout the years and moving from numerous products to bread, Mini Bakeries Limited being the flagship company of the group has become East Africa’s biggest bread manufacturer.
At a very young age, her 3 sons joined her in the business and since then, they have all worked together to transform the small household bakery into a conglomerate that has ventured into numerous businesses and industries.
The Kenyan-born company currently operates in other countries like Tanzania and Uganda and it does have several stores that have enabled the production of the bread and its timely distribution.
Since its introduction in the country, Super Loaf bread has created several employment opportunities and many Kenyans have really benefited from this.

Mini Bakeries Ltd (Nbi)
Started in 1970 by the matriarch of the family, Nurzakhanu Akberali Manji together with her husband Akberali Habib Manji, the family first ventured into baking.
After selling baked products from home, they managed to get a business license in 1970 to operate the first proper bakery in Port Reitz, Mombasa.
Mini Bakeries, incorporated in 1983, with its roots in Mombasa, is the company behind the successful Supa Loaf brand.
The company was established with the key objective of manufacturing and distributing various ranges of bread and has become a market leader over the last three decades.
The manufacture and distribution of baked goods throughout Kenya and more recently Tanzania and Uganda is an important element of the group’s core expertise.
The steady growth of the East African economies has influenced modern retailing trends and Supa Loaf can be found in supermarkets, Dukas, and kiosks in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The different sizes of the bread, timely deliveries and a diverse product range have enabled the brand to cater to different customer needs.
Mini Bakeries Ltd has directly and indirectly employed over 3000 people including bicycle vendors and distributors who in turn employ others to ensure Supa loaf is delivered to consumers on time, when, and where convenient.
Super Loaf bread has become a leading brand and was nominated as a Super Brand in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2011 and is compliant with the Kenya Bureau of Standards.
The manufacturing and distribution network is set up with its customers in mind to ensure that Supa Loaf is supplied while still very fresh to over 10,000 retail outlets within Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The brand has continued to meet customer expectations through attention to detail in terms of its taste and texture.
