AFC Leopards Midfielder Odhiambo Denies Joining Gor Mahia

Midfielder Odhiambo

AFC Leopards dependable midfielder Austine Odhiambo has refuted reports that he has ditched the club for arch-rivals Gor Mahia.

While acknowledging he was aware of the rumors, Odhiambo sought to assure Leopards fans that his heart was still at the Den.

“There is this rumor going around that I’ve joined Gor Mahia. What I can say is that I still have a contract running with AFC Leopards and as I’m looking forward to the next season. What I can tell the fans is that I love the club and I love them too. I’m going nowhere.”

He thanked his youth coach Boniface Ambani whom he said had guided him at the early stages of his career. Ambani was the one who recruited Odhiambo to the development side of AFC Leopards when he was still the coach.

“The person who has inspired me to play football is Boniface Ambani. He gave me a chance to play for the youth team and provided me with the much-needed direction throughout my stay at the side.”

Odhiambo said that his best friend is Said Tsuma who happens to be his neighbor.

“Since we are neighbors with him, we do spend a lot of time together. We go for training together and return home together.”

If given an opportunity to form a five-a-side team from the current AFC Leopards squad, Odhiambo said that he would pick Benjamin Ochan as the goalkeeper, Robinson Robinson Godwell Kamura in defense, Saad Mussa Mugabe in the midfield and Vincent Oburu as sell as Boniface Mukhekhe upfront.

Odhiambo said that he believed Mukhekhe was a big asset for the team and could be resourceful if utilized properly.

He said that he initially had a hard time adjusting to fit well in the senior team and even found some sessions too challenging for him.

“I found things difficult at first, but I thank players like Vincent Oburu and Saad Musa who had my back and urged me on.”

He assured fans that he was still keeping fit and maintaining good form through an individual training program.

“I’ve set aside all Monday’s for jogging after which I rest on Tuesday. On Wednesday I join my local team, Baba Dogo United for ball work before I rest again on Thursday. On Friday we usually have friendly matches to close the week’s program.”

Odhiambo said that he started his football journey at Baba Dogo United, rising through the ranks right from the U-12 team, through U-14 and U-16 before he finally mustered up the courage to try out with AFC Leopards youth team.

He noted that he had reaped big from football and thanked AFC Leopards for helping taking up the responsibility of paying his high school fees.

Odhiambo thanked his Team Manager Thomas Juma and coaches Antony Kimani, Lawrence Webo, and Macheda Bibo for their continued support.
